Red Dive, founded in 1996, is a Bessie award-winning team of choreographers and theatre artists based in New York. We create interactive, multi-sensory events and guided performance-tours in unusual environments both indoors and out. Our work merges the voices of communities, organizations, and anywhere from a few to over 25 artists of various disciplines at one time in order to bring audiences into visceral dialogue with multiple perspectives on timely issues. We believe that through a radical re-envisioning of how and where art is presented, we can have a greater impact on human and social issues and engage wider audiences.

Red dive continues to be critically recognized as an innovator in the realm of multi-disciplinary, site-specific performance. From blindfolded, sensory tours of an old school building, to interactive tours of a historic tenement house, to our eco-boat voyage down Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal, Red Dive expands the boundaries of the art experience.

Red Dive is Maureen Brennan—Director, Ellen Baird, Kerry Lowe, and Ashley Smith.

How we work

Red Dive chooses projects based on criteria stemming from our curiosity of under-explored places and marginalized subjects as well as our desire to critically respond to greater cultural forces. Each project evolves out of a process of in-depth investigation, multi-level collaborations and community exchange and with artistic interpretations of multiple points of view.

In addition, Red Dive extends our mission through commissions in which we provide brainstorming sessions, consulting, coordinating, artistic curation/design, and directing of events/tours that benefit community organizations, art centers, local governments, businesses, development corporations and grassroots initiatives. Please contact us for more information about our workshops and services.
